According to the National Bed Federation (NBF) 7-8 years is the optimal time to considering changing it. However many manufacturers have guarantees that surpass this time, as the quality & materials within their mattresses are chosen for their longevity & sustainability factors more & more these days. It is worthy to note here that it is your mattress that often dictates along with sleeping conditions, how well you sleep & if it’s still comfortable & doing its job of creating a great nights sleep then this is often a good sign. Sleep is one of the 3 pillars of health & well-being & this is where we start to put a true value on where our bed sits in terms of priority within the home
The cost of furnishing a home is up by 4% than 2 years ago, according to lifestyle magazines, with the most expensive items being carpets, sofas & larger pieces of furniture with spends for those items collectively being £10,000+ This is before taking into account any renovation work in the bathroom or kitchen areas & does not include furnishing the bedroom or purchasing any beds either.
Its no surprise that the bedroom is not always considered a high priority as a bed is not seen as a communal piece of furniture for everyone to use
Many bed manufacturers would argue that this should not be the case. Our bed is absolutely a piece of furniture central to our bedroom & probably one of the most important items we will ever buy & yet its often low on the priority list where spend is concerned. Its reported that many people give more priority to spending on a Sofa, TV & even a Car than they do on the bed they sleep in every single night!
What does that say about our attitude towards health & well-being? Are we really valuing what a bed does for us?
